Patrik Ervell Opener

Add caption

Poster boy for runaway creatives everywhere, Patrik Ervell studied poli-sci and economics at Berkley before saying FUCK IT and leaping into the fashion industry. His clothes are not remarkably fashionable but that is his intention. The collections are eclectic but all drive to a central aesthetic. The ostensibly simple garments are finished with an unmistakable Ervell flair of bold restraint. In an industry that revolves around individuality, there is something extremely attractive about being an insider but dressed as an outsider.

Though subversive, Ervell address wardrobe classics with deference. Each season sees new interpretations of suede, nylon and jersey. Almost iconic, readers can expect the brand to release the Pocket Sweater, Short Sleeve Sweater, Standard Pants, and some bomber each season. On their own they look great but as Ervell continues to push the envelope of mens fashion (ewwwwww) the pieces worn together form a strong aesthetic for the brand.

Pocket Sweater
Available in cotton and alpaca for summer and fall season respectively, the Pocket Sweater is easily one of PE’s better known pieces. Regardless of composition, the sweater is made with a seed stitch the features alternating ‘bumps’ that resemble scattered seeds. The sweater comfortable finds itself between the awkward bulk of a fisherman sweater and sheerness of those crappy J. Crew knits. The fit is rather trim and the hem sits comfortable on the waist - which is perfect for wear over a cub collar shirt. Sometimes sizing up can be desired to achieve a more relaxed fit: https://www.openingceremony.com/entry.asp?pid=12614 see third picture.
Quality is fair. The knit is loose and a thick yarn is used, placing it above most contemporary brands in the category but noticeably bellow S.N.S

Herning (blog post coming soon).  The chest pocket -where the sweater get’s its name- uses a tighter knit allowing it sit closer to the body. Ribbing along the hem, cuffs and around the collar retain their shape quite well.

When I first got into Ervell I didn't quite understand the hype, people on menswear forums would incessantly ask about deals on the Pocket Sweater and seemed to largely ignore most of Partik’s other works. After compiling quite the Ervell repository I’ve come to understand that the Pocket is the tether that holds all the outfits together. The textured knit offers a sharp contrast under a smooth nylon bomber while remaining smart above a pair of wool trousers.

Buy it in both knits!

Do you see the seeds???
